Ideal for trekkers who value simplicity, scenery, and shelter.
After breakfast, drive from Moshi to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Marangu. After registration,
trek through lush rainforest teeming with birds and monkeys to reach Mandara Hut (2,700m). Short
acclimatization hike to Maundi Crater for panoramic views.
Climb steadily through heather and moorland. The scenery changes dramatically with giant lobelias and
senecios dotting the trail. Reach Horombo Hut (3,720m) for overnight.
Spend the day acclimatizing at Horombo. Optional hike to Zebra Rocks (4,000m), a good opportunity to
adapt and enjoy striking views of Mawenzi Peak.
Ascend past the last water point and enter the alpine desert. Cross the Saddle – a barren expanse between
Mawenzi and Kibo – to reach Kibo Hut (4,700m). Prepare for your midnight summit push.
Begin at midnight, trekking through darkness past Gilman’s Point (5,685m) to reach Uhuru Peak
(5,895m) at sunrise. After celebrations and photos, descend carefully to Kibo for rest, then continue to
Horombo Hut for the night.
Trek back through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificates and return
to Moshi for a well-earned rest.
It’s the only Kilimanjaro route with hut accommodation instead of camping. That means you’ll sleep in basic dormitory-style huts with beds and mattresses—great if you prefer not to camp.
It's considered one of the more accessible routes because of its gradual incline and comfortable accommodations. That said, summit day is still very challenging, and altitude affects everyone differently.
The 6-day version includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, which significantly improves your chances of reaching the summit. The 5-day option is faster but has a lower success rate.
Most packages cover park fees, hut accommodations, all meals on the mountain, a licensed guide, porters, a cook, and rescue fees. Some also include transport and hotel stays before and after the trek.
The best months are January to early March and June to October. These are the drier seasons, offering better trail conditions and clearer views from the summit.
