Ideal for those seeking both solitude and spectacle.
Transfer from Moshi to Londorossi Gate (2,100m), complete registration, and begin trekking through the
dense rainforest. Arrive at Big Tree Camp (2,700m) after a refreshing walk through giant trees and vibrant
flora.
Climb out of the forest and onto the vast Shira Plateau (3,500m). Enjoy sweeping views of the
surrounding peaks and the plains below. Camp in the open moorland at Shira 1 Camp.
A gentle hike across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m). This day allows your body to adjust to
the thinning air as you marvel at dramatic volcanic landscapes.
Descend slightly to the lush Barranco Valley, home to giant lobelias and impressive rock formations. Set
up camp at Barranco Camp (3,960m), the gateway to the Barranco Wall.
Conquer the famous Barranco Wall a thrilling scramble with breathtaking views. Traverse alpine ridges
to Karanga Camp (4,035m), a perfect spot to rest and acclimatize.
Continue your ascent to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your base camp for the summit night. Prepare and rest in
anticipation of the final push.
Depart at midnight for the summit trek. Witness the magnificent sunrise from Stella Point and reach
Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point on the continent. Descend past Barafu to Mweka Camp (3,100m)
for your last night on the mountain.
Descend through forest to Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi for
relaxation and celebration.
The 7-day trek follows the same scenic trail but with a quicker pace and less time for acclimatization. It’s still manageable for fit trekkers, but the 8-day option is better if you want a more gradual approach and higher summit success rates.
Not compared to routes like Machame or Marangu. Lemosho starts on the quieter western side of the mountain, offering a more peaceful experience especially during the first couple of days.
You’ll need solid physical fitness. Daily hikes range from 5–10 hours, and summit night is especially demanding. Regular cardio, strength, and hiking practice beforehand will really help.
Most packages include park fees, tents and sleeping gear, meals on the mountain, a licensed guide, porters, a cook, and emergency rescue service. Some also include airport transfers and pre/post-trek hotel stays.
Yes, but it must be arranged in advance and is only recommended for experienced trekkers. It’s a steeper, more direct path to the summit and carries more risk due to rockfall. Most climbers use the safer and more common Barafu route to reach the top.
