Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – 7 Days via Machame Route

Ideal for fit, adventurous climbers seeking a longer, scenic trek with rewarding vistas and a safer summit push.

Itinerary

Transfer to Machame Gate (1,800m), register, and begin your journey through a humid rainforest bursting
with life. The trail gradually climbs to Machame Camp (3,000m), nestled just above the tree line.

Climb out of the forest into the open moorland. With every step, the vegetation thins and the views widen.
Arrive at Shira Camp (3,840m) on a plateau offering sweeping vistas of Kibo Peak.

Today is all about acclimatization. Ascend to the towering Lava Tower (4,630m), then descend into the
lush Barranco Valley (3,960m). The climb high/sleep low method improves your chances for summit
success.

Face the impressive Barranco Wall a thrilling scramble with panoramic views. Traverse undulating
valleys and rocky ridges to reach Karanga Camp (4,035m), your oasis in the high alpine desert. A short
but vital acclimatization day.

Trek steadily upward to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your launch point for the summit. You’ll arrive by mid-
afternoon and rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight ascent.

At midnight, begin your climb through the dark, icy slopes toward Stella Point. As dawn breaks, reach the
mighty Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After photos and awe, descend to Barafu, rest
briefly, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,100m).

Enjoy your final descent through the enchanted rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebrate with your climbing
team, collect your certificate, and return to Moshi to reflect on your incredible achievement.

It’s a tough hike that requires good physical fitness. The trail includes steep climbs, long days on foot, and a high-altitude summit push. However, the extra day for acclimatization improves your chances of reaching the top safely.

Most packages include park entry fees, guide and porter support, all meals on the mountain, tents, a cook, rescue fees, and often a hotel night before and after the trek. Double-check with your operator to confirm specifics.

The Machame Route is a camping route no huts. You'll sleep in tents provided by your trekking crew, and meals are served in a dining tent. It’s rustic, but well-supported.

Best times are during the dry seasons: January to early March and June to October. These periods offer better weather, trail conditions, and views especially for the summit sunrise at Uhuru Peak.
